An answer to prayers and sufferings
According to Cardinal Alencherry, the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, the liberation of Fr.Tom Uzhunnalil from captivity was a response to the prayers offered in the paths of suffering. He offers the gratitude of the Church to all who have worked hard for the liberation of Fr.Tom.
Cardinal Alencherry notes that the whole world rejoices on this occasion. The members of the Church feel extremely happy. According to him, this is the work of God. The prayers of millions of people are answered. This is the realization of the words of Jesus: “ If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.”
The Cardinal observes that God works through the agency of man. He offers his gratitude to the diplomats of India and the Vatican who have worked hard for the liberation of Fr. Tom. He also notes that Pope Francis and his representative, Most Rev. Dr. Paul Hinder have also worked very diligently in this matter. He thankfully remembers the great effort put in by the Government of Oman. The change of hearts of the abductors is acknowledged by the Cardinal. It shows how good can come out of evil actions when the evil forces turn to do good. He recognize s that the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister, Mrs. Sushama Swaraj were unsparing in their effort for the liberation of Fr. Tom under the persuasive effort of the Cardinals of India and the CBCI. He also notes that the authorities of the Salesian Congregation worked in close cooperation with the Vatican in this matter. The National and international media too deserve congratulations as they kept the captivity of Fr. Tom in the eyes of the world. The efforts of the Govt. of India, of the State Govt. and of the MPs deserve special recognition.
The Cardinal prays to God to bless all those who were involved in this process of liberation. The Cardinal notes that the people are expecting the return of Fr. Tom to Kerala very soon. He has appealed to the Churches, monasteries and convents to offer special prayers of thanksgiving.
The Cardinal led special prayers at St. Mary’s basilica after the evening mass, yesterday and concluded the prayer service with a Eucharistic adoration where the faithful including many priests and sisters were present in large numbers.
