Mgr. Joseph Kollamparampil was ordained bishop by His Beatitude George Cardinal Alencherry with Archbishop Augustine Joseph Charanakunnel of Raipur and Bishop Simon Stock Palathra CMI of Jagdalpur as co-consecrators during the ceremony today that started at 9.30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Jagadalpur. More than 20 Bishops participated in the ceremony. The ceremony began with the reading of the Papal Bull in Latin by Fr. Antony Kollannur, the Major Archiepiscopal Chancellor and in Hindi by Fr. Abraham Kannampala CMI, the Vicar General of the Eparchy of Jagdalpur. Archbishop Abraham Viruthakulangara preached the homily. The entrance procession was conspicuous with the participation of tribal dancers performing various types of tribal dances. There were a large number of priests, sisters and lay faithful participating. After the Episcopal Ordination, the new Bishop concelebrated the Holy Qurbana. At the conclusion of the Qurbana, the new Bishop was installed in his chair (enthronement), by the Major Archbishop. In the evening there was a public meeting to felicitate the new Bishop.
