The Synodal Commission for Laity was formed in the year 2008 by His Beatitude late Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil.From its very inception the commission could engender a feeling of solidarity and oneness among the laity,making them feel that they are the church and and that they have lot to contribute in current church activities.. Commission of Laity were able to make a feeling among them that they are an integral part of the church like priests and nuns and that their vews and opinions are taken into account.It is a forum in which they can frankly discuss the common issues affecting the church.It is expected that the activities of laity are to be coordinated at different levelsie parish,diocese,national international and archiepiscopal level.The enormous resources of laity are to be pooledand harnessed for the good of society in general and syromalabar community specially.The last year Synod has made some important changes in the working arrangement of the commision

The chairman is in charge of various forums constituted under the commission.The othe members will be in charge of AKCC and Mathruvedi..Youth affairs will be delt by the newly organised Youth Commission.

Jose Vithayathil was appointed as secretary on on 1-2-16 in the place of Sri Jacob Mundakal from pala.

The commission has to make clear the role and effective participation of laity in chuch. we have arranged three laity conferences.Two at the head quarters ie.Mount st Thomas and third one in Amaljyothy Eng.College Kanjirapilly
