The Diocese of Rajkot lies at the northwestern most part of India. It comprises 7 districts of the Gujarat state, together popularly known as Saurashtra and Kutch. On February 25, 1977, Pope Paul VI erected the new Diocese of Rajkot, separating it from the Diocese of Ahemdabad. CMI fathers were working in these areas of the mission since 1972. The entire mission was handed over to the Sacred Heart Province, Kalamassery. Mar Jonas Thaliath CMI was appointed the first Bishop of Rajkot in 1977. After a few years of his service Bp. Jonas was called to his eternal rest in 1981. After him Mar Gregory Karotemprel CMI was appointed the second bishop of Rajkot Diocese in 1983. Bishop Gregory Karotemprel CMI served the Diocese till 2010. On September 11, 2010 Mar Jose Chittoparambil CMI was appointed the third Bishop of the eparchy.
