Reading 1, Is 6:1-13 : Here I am; send me
1 | In the year that King Uzzi'ah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and his train filled the temple. |
2 | Above him stood the seraphim; each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. |
3 | And one called to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory." |
4 | And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. |
5 | And I said: "Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!" |
6 | Then flew one of the seraphim to me, having in his hand a burning coal which he had taken with tongs from the altar. |
7 | And he touched my mouth, and said: "Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin forgiven." |
8 | And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me." |
9 | And he said, "Go, and say to this people: `Hear and hear, but do not understand; see and see, but do not perceive.' |
10 | Make the heart of this people fat, and their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed." |
11 | Then I said, "How long, O Lord?" And he said: "Until cities lie waste without inhabitant, and houses without men, and the land is utterly desolate, |
12 | and the LORD removes men far away, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land. |
13 | And though a tenth remain in it, it will be burned again, like a terebinth or an oak, whose stump remains standing when it is felled." The holy seed is its stump. |
Reading 2, Act 1:15-26 : Matthias was enrolled with the eleven apostles
15 | In those days Peter stood up among the brethren (the company of persons was in all about a hundred and twenty), and said, |
16 | "Brethren, the scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David, concerning Judas who was guide to those who arrested Jesus. |
17 | For he was numbered among us, and was allotted his share in this ministry. |
18 | (Now this man bought a field with the reward of his wickedness; and falling headlong he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out. |
19 | And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the field was called in their language Akel'dama, that is, Field of Blood.) |
20 | For it is written in the book of Psalms, `Let his habitation become desolate, and let there be no one to live in it'; and `His office let another take.' |
21 | So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, |
22 | beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us -- one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection." |
23 | And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsab'bas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthi'as. |
24 | And they prayed and said, "Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show which one of these two thou hast chosen |
25 | to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside, to go to his own place." |
26 | And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthi'as; and he was enrolled with the eleven apostles. |
Reading 3, Phi 2:1-11 : Every tongue must confess that Jesus Christ is Lord
1 | So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any incentive of love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, |
2 | complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. |
3 | Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility count others better than yourselves. |
4 | Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. |
5 | Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, |
6 | who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, |
7 | but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. |
8 | And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. |
9 | Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, |
10 | that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, |
11 | and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. |
Gospel, Mk 16:14-20 : Go into all the world and preach the Gospel
14 | Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they sat at table; and he upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. |
15 | And he said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. |
16 | He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. |
17 | And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; |
18 | they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover." |
19 | So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. |
20 | And they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it. Amen. |
