Reading 1, Num 24:2-4 : The Spirit of God came upon him

| 4 | the oracle of him who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, but having his eyes uncovered: |
Reading 2, Is 11:1-5 : The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him
| Isaiah 11 |

| 1 | There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. |
| 2 | And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. |
| 3 | And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide by what his ears hear; |
| 4 | but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked. |

Reading 3, Tit 3:1-7 : God poured out Holy Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ

| 4 | but when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, |
| 5 | he saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit, |

Gospel, Mt 3:13-17 : Baptism of Jesus

| 13 | Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. |
| 14 | John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" |
