Reading 1, Dt 32:37-43 : There is no God besides me
| Deuteronomy 32 |
|
| 37 | Then he will say, `Where are their gods, the rock in which they took refuge, |
| 38 | who ate the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise up and help you, let them be your protection! |
| 39 | "`See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand. |
| 40 | For I lift up my hand to heaven, and swear, As I live for ever, |
| 41 | if I whet my glittering sword, and my hand takes hold on judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries, and will requite those who hate me. |
| 42 | I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh -- with the blood of the slain and the captives, from the long-haired heads of the enemy.' |
| 43 | "Praise his people, O you nations; for he avenges the blood of his servants, and takes vengeance on his adversaries, and makes expiation for the land of his people." |
Reading 2, Is 49:1-4 : My property is God

| 1 | Listen to me, O coastlands, and hearken, you peoples from afar. The LORD called me from the womb, from the body of my mother he named my name. |
| 2 | He made my mouth like a sharp sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me a polished arrow, in his quiver he hid me away. |
| 3 | And he said to me, "You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified." |
| 4 | But I said, "I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and vanity; yet surely my right is with the LORD, and my recompense with my God." |
Reading 3, 2 Tim 2:1-5 : The Lord’s disciple should suffer

| 1 | You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, |
| 2 | and what you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. |
| 3 | Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. |
| 4 | No soldier on service gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to satisfy the one who enlisted him. |
| 5 | An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. |
Gospel, Mt 10 :24-33 : Bear witness without fear

| 24 | "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master; |
| 25 | it is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Be-el'zebul, how much more will they malign those of his household. |
| 26 | "So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. |
| 27 | What I tell you in the dark, utter in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim upon the housetops. |
| 28 | And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. |
| 29 | Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's will. |
| 30 | But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. |
| 31 | Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. |
| 32 | So every one who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven; |
| 33 | but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven. |
