Season of Elijah-Cross-Moses
ri Sts. Simon and Jude, Apostles
Reading 1, Ex 15:11-13 : The Lord is splendid in holiness.
|"Who is like thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like thee, majestic in holiness, terrible in glorious deeds, doing wonders?
|Thou didst stretch out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.
|"Thou hast led in thy steadfast love the people whom thou hast redeemed, thou hast guided them by thy strength to thy holy abode.
Reading 2, Wis 10: 15-21 : Wisdom will open the mouth of the dumb.
|A holy people and blameless race wisdom delivered from a nation of oppressors.
|She entered the soul of a servant of the Lord, and withstood dread kings with wonders and signs.
|She gave holy men the reward of their labors; she guided them along a marvelous way, and became a shelter to them by day, and a starry flame through the night.
|She brought them over the Red Sea, and led them through deep waters;
|but she drowned their enemies, and cast them up from the depth of the sea.
|Therefore the righteous plundered the ungodly; they sang hymns, O Lord, to thy holy name, and praised with one accord thy defending hand,
|because wisdom opened the mouth of the dumb, and made the tongues of babes speak clearly.
Reading 3, Eph 6:10-17 : Gird your loins with truth and stand firm.
|Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
|Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
|For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
|Therefore take the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
|Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
|and having shod your feet with the equipment of the gospel of peace;
|besides all these, taking the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one.
|And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Gospel, Jn 15:18-25 : Jesus has chosen us.
|"If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.
|If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
|Remember the word that I said to you, `A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.
|But all this they will do to you on my account, because they do not know him who sent me.
|If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.
|He who hates me hates my Father also.
|If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father.
|It is to fulfil the word that is written in their law, `They hated me without a cause.'
